Love at first sight

We had been dreaming of the day Gemma would meet her sister since the very moment we found out we were expecting. We played out all of the possible scenarios. Would she be jealous? Indifferent? happy?  Did she really understand what it meant that there was a baby in Mommas belly? So much anticipation.
And after some general confusion and asking "Momma, you alright?" she was so excited to meet baby Edie. She kept squealing and saying "she's so cute." We were thrilled when she wanted to hold her. Since that initial meeting and getting home Gemma would insist, "oh, I take her" every time she wanted a chance to hold Edie. We really had to watch her so she wouldn't just snag her. All in all though she is very helpful.
Since that first week home she has become much more indifferent. She's almost two so is having more and more tantrums with every day so emotions are hard. We are very grateful that her jealousy is directed at Tim and I and so far no aggression has been toward Edith.

Sister Sister

Gemma and Edie, I hope they become best friends. Right now we are working on mutual tolerance.
Floating hand for safety reasons and pillows in the background just to demonstrate that I am no professional but my girls are still worth the photoshoot.

She is a perfect little squish and we love her so much. Three weeks in and regaining some semblance of normal so I'm going to try and weave blogging back into the mix. Wish this mother of 2 luck in that endeavor!

Spring Semester

I work for a University and Tim works for a high school. Before that I worked for a high school and Tim studied at a University. I don't think there will ever be a time in our lives that is not measured by the Academic calendar. And so, spring semester... here's a catch all for some of my Gemma favs to mark her growth in hair and sassiness over the past few months.
Most notable about this past year in Gemma's life would have to be the addition of a best friend. We alternated each day which house these two would be watched at and Gem fell in love with Clare, her very first and best friend.

How long has it been?

I could make all sorts of excuses for my unintentional blogging hiatus... starting grad school, a baby turned toddler, laziness; but instead I'll just jump to the real reason...
I'm closing my eyes as I count up the months since I last opened this webpage... The problem is that I really enjoy blogging but it just hasn't been a priority these last few months. But I really like it and I find it a life-giving use of time and I love this way to document our family happenings. So my hope, this summer is to make it a priority so when this next little one arrives at the end of August it won't be overwhelming, it will simply be part of the routine. Let's see, shall we?
